Draught influences project activities

Between April and September 2018 the precipitation in Kloster Pforta vineyard has been only 100 mm / m², which is just 40% of an ordinary spring/summer season. Hence, the region around Bad Kösen has been one of the dryest regions during past summers dry and hot Germany.

Of course, these conditions directly influenced our project activities. The wild herbs could hardly grow at all. And the sheep only found few plants and leaves to eat between the grapes. Thats why the animal spent large parts of the summer in the shady orchard meadow right beside the Saale river. Grape harvest started already in August.

As you can see, the climate change is well under way! This summer showed impressively that the vinegrowing business need to take action adapting to this change in a sustainable manner. The idea of LIFE VinEcoS is more up to date than ever.
